No. Drone use is prohibited across the National Park Service system. Surrounding National Forest or BLM land is frequently open, so check the boundary before you plan your trip.
For recreational flying, you need TRUST — free, online, no expiration. A Part 107 certificate is required only if you're flying commercially.
Weight decides it. A sub-250g folding drone skips FAA registration and Remote ID requirements and adds almost nothing to your pack. If you're prioritizing image quality over grams, expect to carry a larger aircraft and spare batteries.

Fly Legal, Fly Welcome
Drone access is a privilege that careless flying takes away. A few things worth knowing before your first trip:
- TRUST is required. Every recreational flyer in the US must pass the free online Recreational UAS Safety Test and carry proof — regardless of drone weight.
- Registration applies over 250g. Drones above 0.55 lbs must be registered with the FAA. Registration is $5 and valid for three years.
- National Parks are closed to drones. Launching, landing, or operating within any National Park Service unit is prohibited and carries federal penalties.
- National Forest and BLM land is often open, with exceptions — designated Wilderness Areas are off-limits, and temporary flight restrictions apply near wildfires.
- Check before you launch. Use B4UFLY or Aloft to confirm airspace at your location.
